Education and Outreach

Raising public awareness about sexual violence is essential to creating change. CCASA’s education and outreach workshops facilitate meaningful conversation on sexual violence, raise awareness, and influence the culture surrounding sexual violence. Education is an important first step towards ending it together.

These workshops are designed for the general public, including children, youth, and their parents and educators. We can also customize facilitated discussions and are always happy to participate in community events, conferences, and panels.

Public Education and Outreach

Child and Youth Education

These programs empower children and youth through education, giving them the tools to talk to trusted adults and the skills to create safe spaces for themselves and their peers.

Geared to ages 4 to 18, these workshops are also for parents, caregivers, educators, and other professionals who work with young people.

This multi-session child sexual abuse education and safety program is for elementary-school-aged children, their parents, and teachers. It explores positive, respectful relationships using age-appropriate content. Educators skilled in working with children deliver the program, modelling respectful behaviours and employing interactive instructional techniques.

Topics include:

  • How to recognize abuse
  • How to promote healthy relationships
  • Bodily autonomy
  • How to access support from trusted adults to reduce the impacts of sexual violence — and feel empowered to do so

This program can be offered in elementary schools or child-serving agencies, such as after-school programs or camps.

In this multi-session program, junior and senior high students learn about sexual violence and its root causes. They are encouraged to envision a world without sexual violence and recognize the role we each play in creating change.

Topics include:

  • Reflection on students’ own attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours
  • How to support a friend who has experienced sexual violence

Birch Grove can be offered in junior and senior high schools or any youth-serving agency, such as a youth group.

Licensing

The “Who Do You Tell?”™ and Birch Grove™ programs for children and youth can be licensed for a fee by approved organizations, with CCASA providing ongoing training and consultation. A screening interview will be conducted to determine an organization’s capacity for delivering this programming.

Community Engagement

CCASA often attends schools, universities, and community events to raise awareness of sexual violence and our services. Our Public Education team offers opportunities to engage and learn through booths, panels, university activities, conferences, and more.

If you’d like to invite CCASA to attend or speak at an event, contact us.

Youth aged 14 to 21 years are encouraged to join the Youth Advisory Committee. The committee provides advice to CCASA on our programs and services and works to ensure that CCASA effectively supports youth.

Facilitated Discussions

If there’s a specific topic related to sexual violence you’d like CCASA to present to your community or organization, our Education and Training team can develop and lead a facilitated conversation tailored to your needs. Past discussions have included topics on allyship, gender representation in the media, sexual violence in the media, and activism.
