New Democrat Peter Julian has tabled a bill in parliament that calls for tougher sentences for anyone who makes, distributes, possesses, or accesses child pornography.
CCASA supports the tougher penalties outlined in Julian’s Bill. The term child pornography is an inadequate description – these are not simply images of naked children, they are images of child sexual abuse.
A recent study by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection found that 35% of the child pornography images they found online displayed serious sexual assaults against young children, and that Canada is the second largest online host of child sexual abuse images, after the United States.
All of our children are vulnerable, so help us protect them. What you can do: write or email your Member of Parliament and tell them you support Julian’s Bill and tougher penalties for those who access, possess, distribute and create images of child sexual abuse.
