The Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team (CSART) team provides specialized care to individuals who have been sexually assaulted within the past 7 days (168 hours).

Individuals who have been sexually assaulted in the last 7 days (168 hours) can access confidential services at the Sheldon M. Chumir Urgent Care Centre, where the CSART team has a specialized space. CSART services are also available through any Calgary emergency department.

CSART is a team of registered nurses, doctors, and CCASA support counsellors who have specialized training and expertise to support people who have been sexually assaulted. Clients can choose which members of the team are involved and can also have police involved if they want to report the sexual assault.

The CCASA support counsellors can provide emotional support and strategies for coping after a sexual assault, assess and support immediate needs, and offer follow up for clients if they choose.

The CSART team can provides the following optional services:

  • Emotional support, information and referrals.
  • Treating or preventing sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy and other health concerns, follow-up testing and referrals to other health care services.
  • Discuss the various options for reporting and evidence collection.
  • Assistance if a person chooses to report.

  • Available to anyone who has experienced a sexual assault within 7 days (168 hours).
  • Available for all ages; children below 12 years of age can access the team at the Alberta Children’s hospital.
  • Available 24/7
  • Clients can access the CSART Program through its location at the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Care Urgent Care, or request the CSART Team at any emergency department or urgent care facility.

CCASA is a choice-based agency and we respect and will advocate for everyone’s choices. There are lots of reasons that people choose to not report, including the fear of not being believed, fear of the person who chose to use sexual violence against them, or concerns about the attitude and experience with the criminal justice system. We understand that everyone’s experiences are different and respect their reporting choices.

In Alberta, there are three reporting options:

Both AHS and CCASA will maintain confidentiality within the limits of the law. If a person chooses to not report, they can still receive medical attention and support from CCASA.
