Amy Van Deurzen M.Ed., R.Psych (she/her)

Clinical Program Supervisor

Amy Van Deurzen is the Clinical Program Supervisor for the Counselling Program at Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse. Amy was born and raised in Lethbridge, and as a teenager she discovered her interest in human behaviour and passion for helping others. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Education, and worked as a high school social studies teacher. Although Amy found the experience of working with teenagers and young adults in an educational setting to be very rewarding, her role as a teacher was not allowing her to work with people in quite the way she wanted. Amy discovered her true calling was to work in a more direct, hands-on way to help people further their own personal wellness, development and growth. For this reason, she decided to return to the University of Lethbridge to complete her master’s degree in counselling psychology, after which she moved to Calgary and became a Registered Psychologist. Amy has worked as a counsellor in schools, non-profit organizations, a post-secondary institution, and private practice. Working with people who have experienced sexual violence has been a primary focus throughout her counselling career, and she found her previous role as a full-time counsellor at CCASA several years ago particularly meaningful and fulfilling. Because of this Amy made the decision to return to CCASA in her current supervisory role which allows her to support both clients and counsellors in addressing impacts of sexual violence.
