CCASA partners with Ellipsis Tree Collective

CCASA is excited and proud to partner with Ellipsis Tree Collective (ETC), an up-and-coming Calgary theatre company, for the Canadian Premiere of…

Ruined is the 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Lynn Nottage. The play is set in a small mining town nestled in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a place ravaged by the atrocities of sexual violence and war. Mama Nadi, a sharp and savvy business woman, runs a bar where both soldiers and rebels partake in the drink, and in the women who seek refuge there. In an ongoing battle of fight or flight, they do what they must to survive.  Does Mama provide asylum to these women for protection or profit? And when her will is put to the ultimate test, can Mama put a price on a human life? This is a haunting and powerful tale of resilience and courage: an unforgettable journey of the human spirit.

ETC is the only Afrocentric theatre company in Western Canada. This fresh and newly formed theatre company was founded by local AfroCaribbean Canadian female multidisciplinary artists. They are comprised of experienced creators, performers, writers, directors, and producers. ETC aims to bring an exciting new theatre experience to Calgary!
