Student Placement & Practicums

CCASA works with accredited institutions to provide students in the field of social work, counselling or other areas related to the organization’s work an opportunity to gain valuable practical experience. CCASA gains tremendously by having students in the work environment.

CCASA’s commitment in this area enhances the programs offered at our local post-secondary education institutions, augments the students’ professional career and contributes to the specialized training of soon to be professionals in an area of specialty that affects millions of people in Canada each year.

Please check our Careers section to see if we are accepting Practicum Students. When we are accepting Student Placements, you will need to send in your cover letter, resume, and the following information clearly noted:

  • Accredited institution you attend
  • Year of program
  • Placement term – include time frame that this would transpire in (ie. January-April and Year)
  • Degree or diploma enrolled in
  • Area that you are specifically interested in (ie. community development work, counselling, research or education)
  • Qualifications required by your practicum supervisor (ie. BA, BSW, MSW)

Current Practicum Opportunities

CCASA is accepting applications for practicum placements for Master of Social Work (Clinical Specialization) and Master of Counselling students for September 2026-April 2027.

*Must be able to be supervised by a Social Worker (MSW). Practicum students will be required to be on site at the CCASA office.

As a counselling practicum student you will:

  • Provide therapeutic counselling to individuals ages 12+ who have experienced sexual assault and sexual abuse as well as their loved ones/support people in person or via telehealth
  • Conduct a variety of risk assessments, including suicide, domestic violence, child welfare, and shelter/safety
  • Complete various responsibilities of clinical case management, including case notes, supporting documentation, consultation, and referrals
  • Participate in individual as well as team supervision
  • May provide crisis intervention, information, and referrals on CCASA’s Support & Information Line
