Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse was honoured this month with the exciting news that we were one of the 12 charitable organizations chosen to be a recipient of the Calgary Herald Christmas Fund.
This fund was established in 1991 by a group of Calgary Herald employees who asked their readers to support social agencies and charities in their communities. Since its inception, the Calgary Herald Christmas Fund through individual and organizational support has raised nearly 20 million dollars for local charities. Last year alone the Christmas fund had contributions of nearly 5 million dollars for recipients of the award.
Each November, the Calgary Herald Christmas Fund selection committee chooses from hundreds of applications, 12 charities to support and for them conducts both a fundraising and awareness raising campaign. For two months they ask individuals and organizations to donate to this fund to support the programs and services that each organization provides to their communities.
The Calgary Herald profiles each charity in their newspaper to help raise awareness of the services they offer.
CCASA is very excited to have both of these opportunities to help raise funding support and awareness of the very important work that we do. We are thrilled to be able to showcase CCASA as a leader in sexual violence and as an organization that is challenging myths and changing perceptions around this issue.
