Education
The education program goal is stated as follows and is the central focus for the objectives and related activities of CCASA’s educational services:
CCASA’s educational program strives to enhance interpersonal functioning and a sense of empowerment for individuals throughout the community by providing accessible, ethical, accurate and relevant education and preventative programs that address sexual violence and its surrounding issues. These programs will be based on the specific needs of diverse populations existing throughout the Calgary and area.
CCASA’s education programs promote a philosophy of integrating healthy sexuality with accurate information on specific sexual abuse and sexual assault issues and to present this is a non-threatening and non-judgmental approach. Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse believes that:
- Violence occurs on a continuum
- It is never a survivor’s fault
- Every person has the right to say “No.”
- In order to promote change, it is important to talk about sexual abuse and sexual assault.
CCASA routinely provides specialized presentations to community groups upon request.
Education programs offered include awareness for teachers, administrators and parents, community presentations tailored to the needs of the particular group requesting the speak, and training sessions to police, hospital and social service agencies specifically tailored to suit their informational needs.
